Felix Scholarship: Study @ Oxford, Reading, SOAS


The Felix Scholarship was founded to offer gifted underprivileged students from India and certain other developing countries the opportunity of furthering their postgraduate education by attending a university in the UK.

Scholarship to study in these universities: University of Oxford, the University of Reading and the School of Oriental and African Studies (SOAS)

Eligibility: Academically gifted and underprivileged students of India, under 30 years of age, who holds at least a first class Bachelor's degree from a recognized Indian university or a comparable institution.

1500 scholarships for differently-abled students @ NHFDC


The National Handicapped Finance and Development Corporation (NHFDC) set up by Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment in Jan 1997 grant funds to persons with disabilities through the State Channelising Agencies (SCAs) nominated by the state govt.(s)
Scholarship schemes: 

1. Trust Fund

Number of scholarships: 1000

For whom: Students covered under Persons with Disabilities (Equal Opportunity, Protection of Rights and Full Participation) Act, 1995 and the National Trust for the Welfare of Persons with Autism, Cerebral Palsy, Mental Retardation and Multiple Disabilities Act, 1999.

Course of study: Degree and Post Graduate level professional and technical courses from recognized institutions in India.

Eligibility: Monthly income of the beneficiary/ parent should be Rs. 25, 000 (Rs. 3 Lakh p.a) or less from all sources/ should be an Indian

Amount for maintenance: 

Professional Graduate Courses: Rs. 2500 p.m (for 10 months)
Professional PG Courses: Rs. 3000 p.m
Amount for Books & stationery:

Professional Graduate Courses: Rs. 6,000 p.a
Professional PG Courses: Rs. 10,000 p.a
Visual and hearing differently-abled students will be financed for purchase of aids and appliances (once during lifetime).

Disbursement of scholarship: On quarterly basis for applications received in preceding quarter. Advance copy of application to be submitted online.

Reimbursement: The Non-Refundable fees at Govt/ Govt-aided.

2. National Fund

Number of scholarships: 500

For whom: Students with at least 40% disabilities certified as per definition under Persons with Disabilities Act 1995.

Course of study: Higher academic/ professional or technical qualification.

Eligibility: Monthly income of the beneficiary/ parent should be Rs. 15, 000 (Rs. 1.80 Lakh p.a) or less from all sources.

Amount:

Professional courses at grad level or above: Rs. 1000 p.m for hostellers/ Rs. 700 p.m for day scholars
Diploma/ Certificate level professional courses: Rs. 700 for hostellers/ Rs. 400 p.m for day scholars
Financial assistance for computer with editing software for blind/ deaf grad and PG students pursuing professional courses/ support access software for cerebral palsy students

Disbursement of Scholarship: Once in an academic year.

Reimbursement: Up to ceiling of Rs. 10, 000 per year

Study UK: Commonwealth Scholarships


Union Ministry of Human Resource Development nominates Indian students for award of this scholarship every year for higher studies, research and specialised training in various subjects in the United Kingdom.
The Award:

Six months of clinical training in either of Cancer Research, Cardiology, Gynecology, Medicine, Dentistry, Orthopedics, Neurology, ENT
One-year Master’s/equivalent degree or three-year doctoral degree in either of Engineering and Technology, Science (Pure and Applied), Agriculture, Humanities and Social Sciences
 
The fellowship covers: 

Student concessionary or other approved airfare to UK and return on expiry of the scholarship
Approved tuition and examination fees.
Personal maintenance allowance at the rate of 882 Euros per month
Grant towards the expenses of preparing a thesis or dissertation, where applicable; initial arrival allowance, incorporating in initial clothing grant for scholars from tropical countries; grant for expenses for approved travel within the UK or overseas; grant towards fieldwork costs for those Scholars undertaking doctoral studies for whom a case has been made for fieldwork outside UK.
A paid mid-term fare to their home country for Scholars on three years doctoral awards.
For married Scholars selected by the Commission for awards exceeding 18 months, a marriage allowance of 220 euros per month payable provided that the husband and wife are residing together at the same address in UK.

Number of Scholarships: Up to 60 nominations containing maximum 25 for doctoral studies are sent by the ministry to Commonwealth Scholarship Commission for final selection.   

Duration:

Six months for clinical training
One year for Master’s course
Three years for PhD course

Eligibility: 

The candidate should not be more than 40 years of age as on 12 October 2011
He should have completed tertiary education in English medium. Those whose native language is not English will be required to provide evidence of sufficient competency in the language. 
He should hold a Bachelor's degree or Master’s degree from a recognised university with at least 60% marks in case of Humanities and Social Science while 65% in Medical, Engineering and Technology, Science and Agriculture.
For PG scholarship in Business and/or Management, the candidate must have taken Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT).
For scholarship in Economics and related subjects, he should have passed Graduate Record Examination (GRE) 
For clinical training, the candidate must have qualified MBBS/BDS between 1 October 2002 and 30 September 2007
Applicants in Medicine and Dentistry should be eligible for registration with the General Medical Council or the General Dental Council

520 cultural talent scholarships for 10-14 year olds!

Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) conducts in-service teachers training programmes across the country, organizes various educational activities for school students, teachers and children of govt and non-govt organizations, and academic programmes on Indian art and culture for foreign teachers and students.


Scholarship: Cultural Talent Search Scholarship Scheme

Sponsored by: Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT)

Scheme for: Outstanding students from recognized schools or belonging to families of practicing traditional performing artists, for receiving specialized in traditional forms of music, dance, drama as well as painting, sculpture and crafts, laying special emphasis on rare art forms, which are in the process of becoming extinct.

Age group: 10 to 14 years (as per the cut off eligibility dates)

Number of scholarships: 520 (125 may be reserved for children of families practicing traditional performing arts etc. and 20 for Specially Challenged children, subject to availability of funds). Talented students whose parent's/ guardian's total monthly income is less than Rs. 6000 pm will be preferred.

Duration of Scholarship: For two years at a time and is renewable after every two years till the completion of the first university degree stage of education or up to the age of 20 years (whichever is earlier) subject to the awardee’s progress.

Selection procedure: Candidates will be short listed based by CCRT Central Selection Committee and short listed candidates will be informed by post only about the dates, timings and venue of the Interview/Test which may be conducted at Regional level during the months of May-July 2012.

The selected child will be placed for training by the parent/guardian either in a suitable institution in which facilities for academic studies as well as for training in the particular cultural field for which the child is awarded the scholarship, are available or he/she will be placed for training in the field concerned under an approved guru/teacher while being allowed to pursue the academic studies in a recognized school. The decision of the CCRT on the selection of the course of study and the guru/teacher will be final.

Scholarship amount:
Rs. 300 per month: For students who undergo their specialized training at the station where they are pursuing their academic studies at the time of the award up to the completion of first university degree stage of education.
Rs. 400 per month: If the child is required to shift to a new station permanently for purpose of his/her specialized training and pursue his / her academic studies also on that station, only then the value of scholarship may be increased to Rs. 400 p.m.

The actual fee paid for the specialized training to the Institution or to the guru/teacher shall be reimbursed to the scholarship holder in addition to the value of scholarship indicated above, subject to a ceiling of Rs. 9000 per year.

Post Graduate Scholarships for Professional Courses for 1000 SC/ST Candidates





The scheme has been initiated keeping in view the social background of the candidates from the deprived section of the society and to provide them opportunity to undertake postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects like Engineering & Technology, Management, Pharmacy etc. in Indian Universities/Institutions/ Colleges.
The objective of the scheme is to provide financial assistance to 1000 SC/ST candidates to pursue postgraduate level studies in Professional subjects at recognized Indian Universities/Institutions/Colleges.
Eligibility: 
i) The candidate must have obtained Graduate degree in the relevant subject and obtained admission at Postgraduate level for regular full time course in any of the Professional subject in a recognized University/Institution/College.
ii) Candidates pursuing post graduate course in professional subjects by correspondence or by Distance Education mode are not eligible to receive financial assistance under this scheme.
iii) The upper age limit for male applicants is 45 years as on 1st July on the year of application, and 50 years in the case of female candidates. In exceptional cases, the age may be relaxed.

The financial assistance available under the scheme is as follows: 
Scholarship
  • @Rs.5,000/- per month (ME/M.Tech)

  • @Rs.3,000/- per month for other courses.

Contingency A
  • @Rs.15,000/- per annum(ME/M.Tech)

Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship for PhD, MD

The scheme is aimed at bringing back researchers (Indian nationals) working overseas in various fields of biotechnology, including agriculture, health sciences, bio-engineering, energy, environment, bioinformatics and other related areas, who are desirous of pursing R&D in an Indian institution


Applications are invited for “Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship”, a re-entry scheme of the Department of Biotechnology (DBT), Ministry of Science & Technology, Govt. of India.

Scheme: Ramalingaswami Re-entry Fellowship

Fellowship amount & benefit: Selected awardees will receive a fellowship amount of Rs. 75,000/ pm (consolidated) and House Rent Allowance of Rs. 7,500/- p.m. wherever host institute provides accommodation to the fellow, the HRA amount will be deducted by the institution. Besides, each fellow will also receive research/contingency grant of Rs. 5,00,000/ year for purchase of consumables, minor equipment, international  and domestic  travel, engaging manpower and other contingent expenditure to be incurred in connection with the implementation of research project.

Duration : The duration of the fellowship will be for a period of five years.  This is extendable by another 5 years on a fresh appraisal of performance.

Eligibility: The applicant should possess a Ph.D., MD or equivalent degree with an outstanding track record as reflected in publications and other recognitions. Only candidates (Indian nationals) working overseas are eligible to apply. Those who have already returned to India and are working in India are not eligible.The upper age limit for applying is 55 years as on 31st August, 2011.

Indian Institute of Advanced Study: Fellowship Programme


The Indian Institute of Advanced Study Society was registered on 6 October 1964 under the Registration of Societies Act of 1860, he primary objective of the Institute is 'to provide an environment suitable for academic research' in the humanities, and the social and natural sciences
IIAS is inviting applications for award of Fellowships for advanced research in the following areas:
(a) Social, Political and Economic Philosophy;

(b) Comparative Indian Literature (including Ancient, Medieval, Modern Folk and Tribal);

(c) Comparative Studies in Philosophy and Religion;

(d) Comparative Studies in History (including Historiography and Philosophy of History);

Programme: Fellowship Programme 2011-2012

Fellowship: Payment of Fellowship Grant

(a) National Fellowship Grant – Rs.60,000/- per month.

(b) In-service Fellows (employees in Universities, Government Departments, etc.) whose salary stands protected, shall have their Fellowship amount increased by 20% of their basic salary, if they maintain a separate establishment, subject to the condition that they are not in occupation of any accommodation provided by their parent organization/office.

(c) For scholars who are retired/not in service, including Foreign scholars -Rs.47,000/- per month.

(d) Pension shall not be deducted from the Fellowship Granted to National Fellows/Fellows who are retired and in receipt of pension from the public exchequer (Universities, Government Departments, etc.).

Selection process: The Screening Committee for screening the applications of Fellowships received by the Institute would meet sometime in September 2011. The meeting of the Fellowship Award Committee (FAC) would be held tentatively in October 2011. The short-listed scholars would be invited to make a presentation before the FAC. Scholars with proven academic credentials, as decided by Screening Committee, may be exempted from this provision. Those interested can get further details from the Secretary of the Institute.
